SD is it fair that the bays seconds play against these guys ?
It would be a great experience for a young lad to play against them
but surely it jeopardises Glenelgs premiership aspirations.

According to what Fuller said on the RPH radio show this morning he is only going to play those Crows elgible to play in the GF which is a fiar call but playing them in the ressies is like dropping a star SANFL players back to the 19's or to an Amatuer A1 side for a bit of fitness. It is morally not right but I can't see a rule governing morlas in the SANFL by-laws I'm afraid.

From the sounds of it, Skipworth will play reserves this week (he has played mostly for us this season anyway), McGregor will and Vince will as well as Westbrook and Potter who didn't play league last week because of injury. I don't think Knights is ready yet and Burton probably isn't and wouldn't play league finals for the Eagles anyway.

The Eagles reserves are probably the second most in-form side in the competition behind North (and maybe West) and would go in favourites regardless of whether the Crows players play or not.

It is just 3 games overall. Unless they have changed the rules since 2004. If McGregor doesn't get picked by the Crows and plays for the Eagles, he will be doing exactly as Cochrane did for Central in 2004. On that occasion there was a meeting during the week of the GF to determine if he was eligible.

If my memory serves correct the bye they included was either the Preliminary Final or Qualifying/Elimination Final weekend?

Only because the Crows are still in (or the Power in 2004) is why McGregor can still play and once he reaches 3 games he can continue to play. I may be wrong, but I'm trying to talk myself into it as I reakon he'd be a good match up on Alleway or Cowan!

Back to the actual topic of the thread (always unpopular, I know): this tells us that Meesen, Pfeiffer and Chad Gibson are all playing for the Norwood 2s in the final. (Gibson may well have qualified to play anyway.)

I'd have to say that if you were Westies you might call this a teensy bit unfair. (Having said that, West will probably turn around and win.) But my question arises from the fact that, while all Crows players might be theoretically 'eligible', only a small proportion actually play. For example, it seems that Scott Welsh isn't playing.

Is the rule:
a) the player must not have played in the Crows' last game;
b) the player must be 'released' by the Crows, i.e. it's 100% their discretion; or
c) something else?

McGregor can only play for the Eagles as long as the Crows are alive.

McGregor is not eligible to play the G.F. as the qualifying games have to be accumulated during the minor round.

If McGregor does not get another game for the Crows he should be eligible to play for the Eagles as he is not good enough to get a game with the Crows. McGregor should be allowed to play the next level of football down from the AFL, this happens every week during the season so why not now.

During the minor round all players seem to get a game, if they are not selected for one team they drop to the one below. Why shouldn't this happen in the major round?

It seems stupid to me that a player not good enough to play at a higher level has to miss out altogether because they haven't played three qualifying matches.

If the SANFL ever revises the interchange rules the foremost and most important rule should be that if a player is not good enough to be selected in a higher grade the player must be allowed to play at the next level down regardless of any other rules that are in place.

Doug Robertson confirmed what you have said Ferret on the RPH show that McGregor can't play in the Grand Final because of not playing 3 games in the minor round.

HOWEVER - Have they changed the rules since 2004? This thread from footysa shows how Cochrane qualified by playing one game for Central during the minor round, he then was eligible, but did not play in Centrals reserves qualifying final because Power had him as an emergency, he then played in the Semi Final for the league team and was allowed to play the GF on the basis of 2 league games plus a reserves final he was eligible to play.
