human_torpedo wrote:It's an interesting one. From a purely selfish POV, I don't mind Sunday/Friday games because it allows me to go to the games due to my own Saturday footballing commitments.. Im sure I am not the only one in this boat either. Eagles played more Sunday/Friday footy this year than Saturday, so I got my moneys worth. But lets face it, at the end of the day it all comes down to when the AFL sides are playing as to what happens with the scheduling of the SANFL unfortunately
It doesn't with North supporters, our crowds are traditionally no different if the local AFL clubs are playing at the same time/same day home or away hence why we asked for all Saturday home games last season (but got dudded). But yes, it does make a difference with some clubs with less loyal fans. Other factors are involved too as I think South does better on Sunday's due to the SFL/GSFL.

Yes, everyone has their reasons for why they do things. I have no doubt of it either HT.

Re: SANFL 2017
I think it's important keep a handful of Sunday games to try to retain connection with those grassroots supporters who are involved in local comps Saturday, which, as SANFL supporters, we try to identify ourselves as too.
But is has to make logical sense as to when to have them, ideally steering away from the AFL games, either in Adelaide or telly. The South/Port game this year, was ridiculous as was times they've held games at 12 or 1 when the Crows are playing twilight, but we all know who that master is.
5/22 would be ideal IMO.

Re: SANFL 2017
If true then that is pathetic. I knew the AFL would hold games on Good Friday as it was popular at SANFL level.
I will keep saying it but the SANFL sold those licences too cheap yet that were the owners. Port bled them dry so they recovered debt. Regardless of that they should have held their ground and made some stipulations. If true I am not surprised. Make it a local SANFL tradition ! Problem is they hold the $$$ as we sold it too easily.

Re: SANFL 2017
So rumour is 3 byes plus another bye for a State games, total 4 byes,
revolutionary changes to win supporters back and desperate income for cash stopped clubs.
One month of the season with no footy, grounds to lie idle again for 1/5 of the season.
We need more than a return to Saturday footy (been an obvious own goal for years).

Re: SANFL 2017
Another rumour floating around that 3 clubs (South mentioned as one) have been told they cant spend their full salary caps this season. If true I assume this is a directive from the SANFL based on the new financial targets clubs need to meet.
Anyone up to speed with that?

I have heard that there's a shop that isn't financial enough, so they are not allowed to stock up until they start making money.
And a café that isn't allowed to buy coffee until they turn a profit.
Then of course, there's the football team that isn't allowed to recruit any more players until they start winning games.
I wonder if the AFL reserves will be required to work under such constraints?
Excuse me if I have jumped the gun, this is just a rumour for now, and I hope it stays that way. Basically club genocide if true.

Wonder what the figures Westies provided are then?
Whilst vague, it would be easy enough to see who signs/recruits who and do the math from there.

Re: SANFL 2017
My initial thoughts from a quick look are very positive except for a couple of small glitches. A thumbs up from me at this stage!

Re: SANFL 2017
The draw usually comes out around mid December so I would imagine in the next 1-2 weeks.

Re: SANFL 2017
I heard Adam Kelly from the sanfl on abc radio yesterday and the reason we have so many Saturday afternoon games is because of the way the afl draw fell, so next year even if they're proven to be successful they'll only be back if it doesn't interfere with the afl.
