I understand and appreciate that, it was just an observation as I know there is nothing that could've been done about it too.

If they switched semi's around then a Grand Finalist would be having a 21 day break.

I thought Onsong was having a crack saying those clubs should move into the AdFL.

It’s inevitable in the next 10 years there will be a realignment of the leagues which will probably see the likes of balaklava, Malalla and maybe United in the same league as a lot of the north eastern teams.

How would you tackle the situation? The only real solution will result in the death of the APFL.

Mallala to the Barossa, the rest to the YPFL?

Balak have tried to join the NEFL only a couple of years ago.

Believe hummocks would also consider the NEFL a viable option.

I’d dissolve APFL & NEFL and mix the two up to form one league. In saying this a lot of NEFL clubs probably wouldn’t want the change because it disrupts their competition to benefit the ‘country’ clubs in APFL.

APFL/NEFL
RSMU
Min Man
Southern Saints
Balaklava
Hamley Bridge
Hummocks
Mallala
United

Angle Vale, Two Wells & Virginia to AdFL or BL&G

BBH, Blyth/Snowtown, BSR & Clare teams to NAFA

The APFL died when they let Angle Vale in.

It was flagged at the time the club's junior numbers presented a distinct unfair advantage given it's an outer metro suburb with an estimated population of about 6000 people.

4 of the last 5 junior colts flags, many of those kids play twice a weekend in other metro comps as well, plus the last two senior colts premierships...this is the start of the end of the APFL in its current form.

But that's just natural attrition. It won't be the first league to dissolve and it won't be the last.

Angle Vale to AdFL or BL&G

Angle Vale FC "left" the AdFL in 2015
They did a "David Koch" rant and the door didn't hit them in the ass on the way out
They would need to be a different club to go back in - more likely to go to the BLG League

If Angle Vale returned to AdFL, they could potentially become a big player out North with their junior catchment and close proximity to Barossa players.. but the flip side is it could be to the detriment of established AdFL clubs that aren’t strong also given close proximity.

I missed this with all the carry on over re-assembling leagues but just on the assumed fact he's been told he won't coach in 2025:

Whitwell's 4 years in charge have resulted in the following results:

2021 - 1st (lost prelim)
2022 - 1st. (lost prelim)
2023 - 3rd. (lost gf)
2024 - 3rd. (lost prelim)

Add onto that 11 seasons as a player including five A Grade premierships, three as captain, two APFL medals.

Just my opinion but getting the young squad to the GF in 2023 after the significant loss of key senior players through retirements, moving, coaching opportunities etc was monumental.

So you take all that into account and yep, perhaps there wasn't the premiership success in those seasons he coached but surely if you were moving him on you'd just declare all coaching positions open from now, take applications over a few weeks and at least get through the senior presentations etc before having that conversation.

Unless he's done something bordering on misconduct, that would seem to be a pretty reasonable and respectful way to part ways with a club great.

Even if you've got a great candidate locked away to coach in 2025, just wait a few weeks?

Just doesn't sit right with me. Ruthless, yes, but needlessly so.

Couldn't agree more.

I'm sure Whitty will move on and potentially end up somewhere else, maybe even bordering the APFL league.
