Re: Grade Cricket
The Zadow report had West Torrens/Glenelg, Woodville/Port Adelaide, Prospect/University, Adelaide/Sturt. It also had an additional side to be created in Gawler. 10 teams total.
There were many good things in the Zadow report that seem to have been overlooked. Merger suggestions were a small part of it, demographics and statistics forming the basis of those merger options put forward.
The simplest move, if you want 12 teams, would be University to Turf Cricket. Then work on mergers and/or relocations from there.
Or continue as is, keeping the Premier League a feature during the pre-season.

So there will be a bye in all junior cricket next year?

Although its being denied. I'd be waiting for Uni to start up juniors at West Beach and take the West Torrens recruiting zone.
This has all been done for a reason.

Re: Grade Cricket
Yes and its purely and simply greed!
We all know elite sport is built on the amount of numbers going through your junior talent programs. More kids, more chance of producing first class cricketers.
What have UNI done as far as a junior program is concerned? Serious question, not taking the piss as i wouldn't know.
From an outsider looking in if one club has to go it would be UNI, not a club with a great junior program in place and working.
Being successful is about growth not shrinking. Why has the AFL added more teams, the A league, basketball and so on.
SACA are doing this so there is less financial burden on them. All for $50 000. Seriously wtf?

SACA are under pressure to from Cricket Australia. It involves a lot more than $50,000 much like how the SANFL caves to the AFL there is plenty of cash at stake.
We are the only Shield state with an odd number of 'Premier' Clubs. Interestingly over in Victoria they want to increase the number of clubs not decrease.

Re: Grade Cricket
We are a much smaller state than most others.. only makes sense to shrink the premier competition so the elite funnel up towards the top, instead of potentially diluting the standard with players not capable of making the grade.

Nup cant agree!
ITS A NUMBERS GAME.
Much like going to a night club to pick up. The more you go to, greater chances of snagging an absolute hottie.
They dont ALL go to one club.
Vague analogy maybe, but think about it.

Re: Grade Cricket
Uni and juniors is a tough one.
"They've got no juniors" goes the argument.
Yeah, but they've wanted juniors. Asked for a zone I believe, but were told no.

Re: Grade Cricket
While your at it SACA get rid of the D Grade and "B grade" Juniors.
Too many people playing grade cricket who just aren't good enough.

Various accusations made, SACA asked for posts to be taken down citing defamation.
Issue got brought up in Parliament today??!!

Both clubs aren't going to merge quietly without bringing in the heavy hitters. Parliament was a good start, but only a start. Look for this to have many, many, many, more miles before either club merges is my information. Port by the sounds of it have even more really big hitters than Torrens which surprised me as they don't say much on here, down in Swamp Land. Many people at both clubs with many, many big names behind them all in very powerful positions. I cant see a number of people at either club just dropping their cricket whites, bending over and saying "go your hardest". Look for a mungril dog fight to the very end is my mail.
I wouldn't be doing a draw for 12 teams just yet

Re: Grade Cricket
The odd number of teams is obviously a sticking point with CA.
Is there a "white knight" out there? Could a club like Sandy Creek enter a team (the Zadow Report's Gawler expansion) with the weight of the Barossa behind them?
Long term view to go to 16 teams with a premier division of 8 teams? Promotion/Relegation.

Re: Grade Cricket
Paul Caica the Labor MP had a fair old slice of the SACA today in parliament. Asking for a parliamentary enquiry into the SACA and much more
As I said earlier. Don't expect the draw for a 12 team competition to come out any time soon if EVER. Makes for good listening and the way Paul explains it, has everyone stumped how West Torrens or even Port are in the gun. Listen for the Eagles impressive cricket resume in Paul's speech

Starting to get a bit hot in the kitchen for the SACA and much more heading their way I'm led to believe

Rambled a bit but got the point across eventually.
Describing Uni as "a parasite" was a nice touch!

Luckily he has licence to say as he pleases in parliament. Could not stop laughing at the "parasite" bit.
He also said that while he was part of the cabinet and part of the government that the SACA won't get another red cent. Interesting.
It appears that Bradshaw and his crew have pissed off people a bit higher up the food chain than them.
Fantastic interview for those who want a good laugh.

Typical Politician Chest beating for 10 minutes when 5 would have sufficed.......
Could have used the Parasite description for 2 of those 3 clubs involved in this....
Also implies that the West Beach Development was being done by the Cricket Club which it is not. The Adelaide University Sports Association are doing it.
Woodville got cold feet because they thought the statement that SACA would back a Woodville/West Torrens merger was a blank cheque???

Re: Grade Cricket
Aren't the Uni sports association made up of its sporting clubs?
Or are they completely independent bodies?
His preference for a Wood-WT merger was odd. Which is it? West Torrens are a strong, old, proud club who produce consistently good results and shouldn't be on the chopping block... or they just have the wrong merger partner in mind and are a few bucks short
