North fans won’t be able to clap on the weekend with all the blisters on the ends of their fingers from hitting the refresh button!

Through a friend that was listening to the ABC this morning, I heard that the Eagles only became aware of the extra man when C7 alerted them to it. Can anyone confirm this? Not sure if it's already been mentioned.
100% not true
Thanks HBF.
Both 7 and 9 News speaking to ABC 'Boundary Rider' Michael Maney, who has confirmed speaking to the stewards at the time. The Eagles, supposedly, having no idea about the extra player at that stage.
I'll open myself up to criticism here. FWIW, I'd prefer that, unless they're called upon by the League to assist in any way, the media just stick to covering the game and leave it to the clubs and league officials to manage real-time on-field matters.**
Just my view.
**Edit - unless someone's safety is an issue, of course.

The rules can not be any clearer imo.
No head count no breach.
I reckon it happened in a BL&G final a couple years back involving Barossa District i reckon. There was a head count and Barossa had 19 on field. I dont remember much about it but i believe they just recieved a fine and maybe a free kick at the time. Deciding wether the score should be wiped was left up to the directors during the week. JIM05 might remember more
Was that with Roger James as coach?
Didn’t they lose the game coz of it?
Roger James tried running off the field and thats when the head count was called. Barossa had their score wiped and i reckon Williston were the beneficiaries
Fair enough as i said i remember bugger all
Yeah, had their score wiped

In 1975 [A Norwood Premiership season] There was a game played between West Torrens and West Adelaide
WT had 19 men on the ground when the injured John Cassin was still on the ground
WT reserve Freddie Bills came onto the ground which meant Bills/Cassin were both on the ground
A count of WT players was unsuccessful as WT players either jumped the fence or came off the field
The result pended a subsequent enquiry by the SANFL
The protest was dismissed
In that game there was no score during the 19 players on the ground
The scores in that match
WT 15-10[100]
WA 12-10 [82]
The score in this match
NA 15-10 [100]
WT 14-11 [95]
LOOK at the scores of both winning teams at siren time ....

Bring back the Challenge Final.
Let the Roosters play the 'Legs. If they win, then the Eagles get to challenge them for the flag on the next weekend.
Might give us all an extra game to watch

Down the Hill wrote:Well they’ve brought in the big guns to make a decision. As a judge and QC surely the laws of the game must be upheld. Regardless of what rules or by-laws are put in place by a league regarding the game day penalty for having too many on the field one thing that seems to be consistent is that a player count conducted by the umpires has to take place after requested by the opposition captain. This didn’t occur so not sure how the outcome of the game can be changed. I suspect he may give recommendations as to preventing this happening again such as umpires checking with the benches that the correct number of players are off the field before the umpire starts each qtr but I can’t see him coming up with a finding that contradicts the laws of the game.
I hate common sense and/or facts, they ruin any pointless argument....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I keep getting a chuckle thinking about the North player at the opening bounce of the last quarter running around trying to work out who he’s meant to be standing, there must’ve been numerous moments of panic.

Re: Preliminary Final teams.
.@GerardWhateley reports that the AFL workshopped the current SANFL prelim situation today and, under its rules, would overturn the result and send Woodville-West Torrens into the Grand Final.

Re: Preliminary Final teams.
What the AFL would do is irrelevent. Their rules are different to the SANFLs which even has a precedent in 1975 when the Eagles were not only guilty of having 19 players on the field against West but the players hid and ran away when a count was requested.
The SANFL took no action against the Eagles.
If a club that has a count called against them and deliberately avoids that get no action taken against them then there's no way a team that doesn't get asked for a count and doesn't try to hide anything will get any penalty.
Common sense.

MEDIA RELEASE FROM THE NORTH EAST AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE
MEDIA STATEMENT: NEAFL Grand Final Incident
The North East Australian Football League wishes to clarify an incident which occurred in the last quarter of the 2018 NEAFL Grand Final at Fankhauser Reserve on Sunday, September 16.
A head count was called by Sydney captain Colin O’Riordan 20 seconds in to the quarter when the score read Southport 12.4 (76) to Sydney 2.4 (16).
The head count took place where it was established Southport had 19 players on the field.
At this time, the breach was reported to the NEAFL match manager. Both clubs were informed that an outcome of the breach would be determined as soon as practically possible.
During the 20 seconds in the final quarter when Southport had an extra player on the field, neither team scored any points.
After consultation with both clubs and ongoing discussion during the quarter, it was determined that the scores would remain as is.
The decision was made in accordance with NEAFL rule 5.16.a.e:
Where a player does not enter the playing field in accordance with these Rules, the Match Manager and/or field umpire(s) must report the circumstances to the AFL. Time and scores at the time of the breach are to be recorded. The AFL may determine the matter by way of fine, reversal of Match result or other sanction as it deems appropriate.
In line with this rule, the NEAFL determined that the breach had no material impact on the outcome of the game and the score should stand.
The final score was Southport 14.6 (90) defeated Sydney 5.5 (35).
The NEAFL acknowledges the ruling and decision occurred during an important time of the game.
Whilst the decision took some time to get a resolution, we appreciate both clubs’ understanding in the matter.

Re: Preliminary Final teams.
20 seconds into the quarter and neither team's score changed. Correct result.
SANFL on the other hand have neither team realised for over 4 minutes and one team scores 8 points end result a win of 5 points to the team with 19 players for 4 minutes.....big difference
