Thank you.
If the other situation didn't exist I'd say that the rule is stupid and he shouldn't play, but I think actually circumventing the rule is the bigger crime.

For the CEY outcome common sense prevailed. I think there needs to be room for that i.e. the appeals process that the Crows used.

I'm glad that Roy had his say and gave the media an AFL angle for a story on the SANFL finals, otherwise we wouldn't have heard a thing about them.

Seedsman, Sloane and Smith do not need a permit to play and that's where its wrong.

the worst thing about Seedman playing is he will managed and probably only play half a game, again giving the competition the big middle finger.

Correct; Seedsman does not need a permit. Seedsman is eligible, as are Smith and Sloan, because, as was the case for Port in 2014, finals qualification rules do not apply until the team is eliminated at AFL level.

The directors voted to ignore one of their own guidelines, integrity, hence the fortunes of the Crows Reserves and the teams they play against is largely determined by the AFL side and whether they stay alive in the AFL

Whilst I hope the Crows go on to win the AFL premiership, I also hope Central put them out in the SANFL this weekend so at least the remaining three weeks of the SANFL season is genuine.

Good on Roy Laird for saying what he said. Geez, I spent years hoping Central would lose so the Eagles didn't have to face them in finals. How things have changed. I think I'll jump on the Eagles bandwagon next week - 3rd game this year and 4th in the last two.

I agree that it is a silly rule. And I don't understand the appeal system. But why have a rule if it's only enforced by discretion? A rule should be stated beforehand, or, agreed to by BOTH parties at a later date if there's extenuating circumstances. If Seedsman can play because of a loophole in a silly law, how can the Crows then turn around and (basically) say, "Oh, that law is unfair, CEY should be given a 'permit'".
Silly or not, if one law was abided by, we wouldn't have this situation, it would have evened out, instead the Ravens get it both ways.

INCORRECT MATT

"The Crows today gained a special permit for midfielder Cam Ellis-Yolmen — a Magarey Medal favourite — to be allowed to slip from the AFL to the SANFL knockout final against Central District at Adelaide Oval.

Adelaide will do the same for Seedsman, who has played 15 AFL games and just two in the SANFL this season, but needs match practice after being on the sidelines for the past three weeks....

In general, AFL-listed players qualify for SANFL finals if they have played more games in the State league than in the AFL — and at least three games after June 30.

But if the AFL and SANFL teams are both in the major round, the AFL club can seek special permits for their AFL players to get match fitness in the state league finals. This certainly applies for Seedsman

SANFL CRITERIA

ADELAIDE can have its AFL-listed players take the field in the SANFL finals if they meet these qualification rules:

PLAYED more SANFL games than AFL games this season

PLAYED at least three SANFL games after June 30

IN extraordinary circumstances, the Crows can seek for a permit based on AFL-listed players returning from injury, suspension or with “extenuating circumstances”.

ANY member of the Adelaide 22 who played AFL against West Coast on Friday night needs a special permit to play against Central District in the SANFL elimination final at Adelaide Oval on Saturday. This has been granted to Cam Ellis-Yolmen."

matt35 wrote:The bottom line here is that this was an absolutely common sense decision by the SANFL. CEY has missed two SANFL games all season and replaced a suspended player otherwise it would have been one. The permit system is in place for exactly this sort of situation, so it is completely within the rules and by no means an abuse of the system. Absolutely the right and logical call.

The bottom line is there are different rules and different conditions for clubs in the same competition.
The Crows are a lazy club who don't care about alienating people as they have a core group of plastic morons who will always fill their seats.

Except in Finals because they don't own Computers & line up for tickets @ Marion, apparently

The CEY issue is an interesting one - personally, I think he should play. 18 Games says he should IMHO.
That said, he was a WWT Player before the Ravens.
Under the old system, he would be playing for an SANFL Reserves Team (in the SANFL Reserves) this week because both WWT League & Reserves have the week off. Interesting isn't it? Potentially, under the 'old system' he could be playing for Norwood, Glenelg, North or South! Integrity question, again?

So, in a way, the original idea (that most on here supported) of the Cows playing in the RESERVES Competition would've been the 'best fit', wouldn't it have been?
