He was off getting treatment on a shoulder injury, he hadn't been back on the field long enough to erase the time he'd been off the field. Faf heard the umpire and Smithy talking about it, that's why he called the declaration when he did.
OK, cheers, although I think the rule is a bit silly, I can understand why it is in place as it will be mis-used.
They were saying he goes off the ground every test just before he bats in the second innings to get changed and lay out his equipment so he is not rushed during the change over. Was off for 21 minutes doing this and having a shower. Last pair took longer to get out (declare) than anticipated.

If that's the case then I'd be onto it as the opposing skipper, as FAf was.

For sure, I'm sure every opener would love that opportunity, 10 minute changeover is a bit short IMO given the walk to the dressing rooms, it's not as though they walk off the oval and have a durry while they're putting on their pads.
Good to see a bit of fight in the team in this match. The Saffers intensity was down a bit as well. I think losing two bowlers throughout the series might have finally caught up with them a bit in the end. The job was done and Faf's declaration didn't really pay out in the end after Renshaw and Khawaja defied the bowlers on the first night, that was a crucial little session in the context of the match.
A real positive was the efforts of Renshaw and Handscomb and Wade had a cracker behind the stumps except for that one he left for Renshaw at slip. Maddinson was stiff and surprise surprise Lyon got wickets once he had some runs to play with.
I'll be there front and centre at the Gabba on Friday the 16th..I'll be easy to spot, I'll be wearing a sombrero and a yellow t shirt...

What and Ferguson didn't cop a fair delivery in the 2nd dig in Hobart?
Ferguson misjudged a ball that was missing the stumps (yes it moved back on him and caught him in two minds - but it was no jaffa) Maddinson missed a ball that took out middle peg after swinging in late - a fair nut to get.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Future, yes perhaps - but was his call up warranted at the time?
Moot point. Was Fergusons?
No, i don't think Fergusons was warranted either - but can't go around handing out Baggy Green's just because we believe players have a future at the top level - surely they've got to earn it still!?
Other long term prospects who have been performing better than both Ferg and Maddinson that should've come under consideration first IMO.

After losing the Ashes last year, 5 straight losses this year, losing a series on home soil, why not?
Seriously, all of this talk about Chappelli bagging Renshaw and his run rate is ridiculous. Chappell was saying he needed to turn the strike over, he wasn't condemning him for 'hanging around'.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

He also said he ruled a line through S.Marsh's name a long time ago.

Exactly, he was saying the same thing on Macquarie Radio commentary yesterday and even chucked in story from his early GDCC days for good measure to illustrate his point.
Best commentator in the country still, IMHO.

Pity the selectors didn't.........
