R15 - Adelaide v Sturt @ Thebby
ADELAIDE
Speedy defender Curtly Hampton will play his first game for the season against Sturt at Thebarton Oval on Saturday.
Sidelined by a nagging foot injury since arriving from Greater Western Sydney, Hampton has been named in the back pocket to face the Double Blues.
The former Giant has been joined by West Adelaide premiership forward Jonathon Beech and development trio Matt Johncock, Ben O’Donohue and Daniel Blythe in the 23-man squad.
Former Hawk Luke Lowden was unable to be considered due to a hamstring strain while Wayne Milera and Jake Kelly have been called up to the Crows’ AFL squad.

STURT
Sturt has resisted the temptation to punt on the fitness of star goalsneak Ben Hansen for Saturday’s game against Adelaide at Thebarton Oval.
Desperate to play against the Crows’ SANFL side, Hansen has been held back by Sturt officials who are concerned about his slight thigh strain.
As a result, Hansen will likely miss just one match, ensuring he will return to action against Central District in Round 16.
His replacement will come from one of the three inclusions into the Double Blues’ 23-man squad, Henry Carey, James Paprotny and Campbell Wildman.
Former Crows ruckman Jack Osborn will resume from a toe injury in the Reserves.

Re: R15 - Adelaide v Sturt @ Thebby
If it's half the game the last one between these two sides was, it'll be a ripper! Hope I'm wrong but Sturt by 3-4 goals.
No Surrender!

Sturt get the gate/catering etc I believe. It's a punt to see if giving the Ravens a 'home' game will entice more than 200 of their supporters along. But at the same time running the risk of p*ssing off some of the Sturt faithful.
Not that I've listened to it, but the Sturt head-honcho is on the sanfl site talking about the decision.
Could it also be the Ravens testing the waters to see if a home base in the SANFL is worthwhile?

I think I read somewhere that Sturt will make more money this way.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Conlon makes it sounds like he's going to watch his grandkids play on opposing teams in an under 8's match or similar. Self parody it has to be.

Wishful thinking, Ronnie. I'm not sure Mr Postcards possesses that degree of irony, given he's a dyed-in-the-wool Crows fan. He's just demonstrating with saying it outright that he's not really that much of a Sturt fan anymore. A real Sturt fan would support Sturt at all costs.

No doubt, exactly like my neighbor. He would also be able to tell me that a Crows-Sturt game is a win win situation. He would be the same vintage as Conlon too, and saw the Sturt glory years, basked in the glow. He's free to spend his time as he likes of course, but I'm also free to think of him as a disloyal w**ker

So The Ravens are playing potentially 7 top ups and still the Skipper is lining up for Echunga tomorrow afternoon?

There's one for the history books - how long has it been since a captain not played League footy for a number of weeks based on 'form'? You can't ask me, as I have no idea!

It had to happen sooner or later, but that doesn't lessen the shock!

Nice to see Sturt become complete "sell outs" to the AFL.
No crows home games ever .... But the goal posts change for this game.
Pathetic IMO

Re: R15 - Adelaide v Sturt @ Thebby
Sturt always play a home game away, the council agreement limits the number of home games they can have at Unley. Last year it was at Norwood (vs Port I think). They also used to play a home game at Adelaide Oval but doubt they world be allowed now.

Do the Crows train at Thebby? It's a home game to the Crows in name only. They are as familiar with the oval as Sturt is, so neutral would more accurately describe it in reality.
Neutral venue where the Ravens foot the bill and Sturt take the profits, as I understand it.
If it was played at Football Park no. 2 or wherever it is they call home, or carry some sort of advantage over a visiting side, that'd be a different story.
I'm struggling to see where the"sell-out" line has been crossed here. On the contrary it's nice to have Thebby used again. If the SANFL could get over the "must have 18 round" policy, it'd be good for Thebby to be the neutral venue.

Good point. Thebby is a good location and the idea has merit. The facility will need upgrading but it is worth a look.
