You know what's amazed me, the way R&B Fridays has become part of Adelaide's culture.
Hit 107 was struggling to gain traction. A member of the Street Team, not even part of the promo/marketing staff, suggested the idea and they tried it. It's gone off. Mix more than doubles its audience while its on. Now it's being run across the nation.
Quite an amazing achievement, really.

Sorry Ash, I'm not on Facebook so I can't check out your link. Am I right in guessing it's either an 'I hate 5AA' group or an 'I love SEN' group?

What's more amazing, and I'm hardly an R&B aficionado, is that most of what gets rolled out doesn't seem to be "R&B", would I be right in saying that?

I hear Young MC, Eminem, etc....?

Technically, hip hop would be R&B.

R&B, by definition, is basically 'black music'.
It was a title derived for the charts in the pop musics early days to define 'race music'.

Thought it was Rhythm & Blues. Can't see where hip hop fits in.

Rhythm and blues is a generic term. Strangely, it doesn't have much to do with rhythm, nor blues. When the term was coined, it was when the influence of blues was turning music towards rock n roll.
The term clearly identifies to a white audience that the music is 'black' music - ergo, hip hop.
It's never strictly been about rhythm, nor blues music.

Its antecedent is in rhythm and blues, as I said above, but as 'black music' has changed over the years, moving from blues, to rock n roll, to soul, to disco, to funk, to hip hop, so has the music encapsulated by the term.

I agree that what is identified as R&B has changed, I just don't think all "black music" can or should be labelled R&B due to the diversity of styles. Just as being a black muso doesn't necessarily make you an R&B artist.
I think Hip Hop is so far removed from, say Motown, that while they may have had a common ancestor, they are far enough apart as to now be considered "different" for want of a better word.

I get what you're saying.
I guess you'll have to talk to the record execs about that and get them to change the definition.
I'm just telling you the history of the term - no one would've equated Funkadelic with John Lee Hooker or even Bo Diddley, but they were both regarded as R&B (because they were 'black' or 'race' music).

I agree, but I do think on AA he has more to work with in terms of politicians etc from interviews.
He is the luckiest man in the world to be on radio.

Not funny and a cockhead to boot. Even more reason not to break my self imposed ban on listening to 5aa.

I think a prolific twitterer to the brekky show on AA @AlbertonPower should be in there ahead of Blakey. I mean the brekky lads just love him.
