I'm only on my mobile, so it's hard to research but a quick search of this site produced the following figures posted by Spelly, there figures show crowds up to the second week of May:
1997: 3957 (24 matches, to Rd 7)
1998: 4132 (27, Rd 7)
1999: 3711 (27, Rd 7)
2000: 3296 (39, Rd 10)
2001: 4005 (27, Rd 7)
2002: 3761 (27, Rd 7)
2003: 3306 (27, Rd 7)
2004: 3589 (23, Rd 6)
2005: 3241 (27, Rd 7)
2006: 3256 (27, Rd 7)
2007: 3262 (23, Rd 6)
2008: 3672 (28, Rd 7)
2009: 3173 (28, Rd 7)
2010: 3580 (28, Rd 7)
2011: 3639 (23, Rd 6)
2012: 3286 (30, Rd 8)
2013: 3407 (24, Rd 6)
2014: 3357 (25, Rd 6)
2015: 2637 (27, Rd 6)

Well **** me, look at the decline post reserves! I know the crowds have since fallen more.
We predicted this! We knew it would happen! The ONLY dissenters from this opinion on this forum were handfuls of Crows/Power fans pushing their club's agenda.
Now it's happened I'm now reading hogwash that ee have to lower our standards?
The first thing we must do is kick the bloody reserve out! No good going into battle with a bad appendix. We'll still have to fight for our survival, but we can't do it carrying such a horrible handicap.
I'd much rather the ravens folded than Glenelg.

What does the introduction of the Crows reserves have to do with Glenelgs declining crowds?

Absolutely nothing but some people just ain't that bright unfortunately

Nothing to back up your view except insults.
We on the other hand have crowd stats from this comp, blatant admissions from the reserves' coaches that they rest players when the game is on the line for AFL duties the following week, the depletion of the WAFL and the VFL, the fact that many on here predicted the fall in crowds and the testimony of hundreds that they're just not interested in a compromised competition.

I know plenty of Norwood supporters who have stopped going since the reserve teams entered and personally my interest is at an all time low and my financial supports of the club has been cut from thousands a year to a couple hundred.

lol. You seriously can't see how much of a cop-out that is?

The competition is no more compromised now than when you had AFL players running around in every SANFL team. Putting them all together at Port and the Ravens has not created 2 teams that dominate the comp which was the big fear initially.

People just aren't interested anymore because it's a poor product. 4 games a week, hardly ever see a nail-biting finish or even a close contest. A bye every second week. Yawn.

You obviously have no idea about the issues.
Probably better if you stuck to asking questions than making ill informed statements.

There is a real lack of understanding about what's happening in the SANFL amongst non SANFL crowds. I listened to some well meaning suggestions on mmm this morning about how the SANFL can be fixed. KG thinks it's dead, some callers reckoned clubs need to put on meals, or players need to spend more time hanging the clubs. I had my 5 yo in the car with me and I had weekend things to take him to, I couldn't call in, but I wished they'd at least ACKNOWLEDGE there's a problem with the reserves being in.
AFL supporters looking in from the outside have no idea about the problems facing SANFL clubs, or the feeling of SANFL fans. Perhaps if we educate them there might be some hope, but in any case, the first goal should be to get the reserves out.

I think the horse has bolted unfortunately!
They should never have been let in but removing them now will diminish interest in the Comp even further.

The product as mentioned previously just isn't what it use to be and people aren't willing to pay to watch a second tier Comp.
Amateur and country footy is now the preferred choice for most now after the AFL.

I agree that the horse has perhaps bolted, and that once many are drawn away they won't be back, but I disagree with the bit I've highlighted.

The number of Crows supporters, in particular, that attend SANFL games is so small that I just don't think it can be said that they've brought any interest to the comp.

The Power changing the Magpies to their reserves has done irreparable damage also.
Can't change that now as I doubt magpie supporters of old will return.
I have been to every Magpie premiership since my year of birth in 74 but I have zero interest now that the Power play their reserves in the Magpies side.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

Good point.

It would be typical of a dropkick like Keith Thomas to assume that all Magpies supporters were also Power supporters.

Another week, another 4 games done and dusted by qtr time.

Add in the fact Centrals were the only team to win a premiership for 10 years and maybe you get close to the actual reason people are losing interest in watching their club play.

Ummm I think central weren't the "only team to win a premiership for 10 years". I think your facts are lacking in facts.

Save the Tigers and they put up a performance like that after all the publicity.

Dont want to see them go but you would think after all the hype this week the side would have given at least half a roar

I was there today as a neutral supporter and thought the same thing.

Definitely thought the Bay's would be pretty fired up with the weeks events then to dish up that today. They looked terrible !

No, the big fear from SANFL supporters was not that the clubs would dominate - that was up there, but not THE big fear. The big fear was that the supporter pool would be diluted due to the compromised nature of the competition. That has happened. It is happening.

I'm glad you recognised it was tongue in cheek. I can't believe so many people took the piece seriously. He sucked people right in, then pretty much spelt out all of our concerns about the SANFL (dwindling crowds, reduced interest from young people, compromised comp) and how it needed to be dealt with and then spelt out the joke at the conclusion of the article ("All of these are big problems, but I blame Port Adelaide" *wink, wink*) and didn't the Port faithful go off. The worst bit was KT jumping in to voice his opinion, giving the piece some serious commentary. You'd think an intelligent bloke like him could see what Wrinkles was aiming at with his piece.
The PAFC media people put together a good piece in response yesterday - Other things we can blame on Port. At least they saw what Wrinkles was doing and responded in kind.

Maybe KT with his "You took half of Glenelg to the Crows with you" was just as tongue in cheek. ;)
