Disagree that sh!t has been happening since before test cricket even started - riots at MCC v NSW XVIII matches involving future prime minsiters.whufc wrote:Not so much that incident but that era where they really started to blur the lines a bit which in hindsight was the catalyst for the behavioural standards under Smith.am Bays wrote:Oh Please, FMDwhufc wrote:Does Michael Clarke get a cap for his Lara Bingle era and then the ‘get ready for a broken arm’ phase.
Many people in higher places have said that it was the end of the Clarke era where shit started to go wrong
Even if we dismiss that part the whole not singing the team song when you captain to run off to a party on a yacht has to be nomination worthy.
This is not about the test team's behaviour its about our current era of hypocritical outrage thanks to social media where every arsehole (me included) has an opinion about something they have hal f the information on.
been following cricket seriously in this country since Session one of the 1st test in 1978-79 when we were 6 for 26 against the POMs
if I had a $$$ for every controversy I've seen:
underarms,
betting on test matches,
kicking players,
articles criticising Pakistan by vice captains in 1982,
merv Hughes telling Greenidge to "F*** Off"
threats to call off tours in 1984 over pay,
Dropping strides at committee rooms,
thumping players races in South Africa,
targeting South African tailenders who cant bat in Adelaide as they run to Square Leg - Hi Nantie)
Seriously there is nothing out of the ordinary in the last10 years they only thing that has changed is our "outrage" and certainly nothing worse than what happens in locl matches every weekend or in other sports - golf anyone?
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Don't disagree with any of that except for sport reflects society and that 'people' expect a higher standard these days. Once upon a time racist comments were tolerated....now we would never accept that. That is the same for kicking people etc.

I was a big Brett Lee fan and loved his wicket celebrations but at the time there was an element that thought he was a bit of a DH, is he a candidate.

That is the exact reason why I thought he was a knob.whufc wrote:I was a big Brett Lee fan and loved his wicket celebrations but at the time there was an element that thought he was a bit of a DH, is he a candidate.
I watched him bowling to number 11 years ago @ Adelaide Oval, one pitched up ball would've skittled him, instead he wanted to play around with him by bowling bouncers and at the body prancing back to his mark doing the Dermie, he got the chainsaw out when he finally dismissed.
The dude would scream his own name while flogging off, could definitely bowl but the theatrics did nothing for me, I was never one to celebrate a wicket when I played, gave out the odd GAGF a few times but as a bowler you are there to take wickets.

Re: Australian International Season 2022/23
Im tending to agree with the safooty icon am bays
The behaviour goes back to the Ian Chappell daze, when we were called the Ugly Australians
Todays players are scrutinised more than the Chappell/Border eras for example
The microphonics are picking up sledging and carry on , that technology was very seldom when TV first started
The 2nd test match I ever attended was Australia v England 1970 Adelaide oval
EG batted first and were about 2/240 at stumps day 1
Geoffrey 'slasher' Boycott was run out for 58
I heard nothing sinister from that test[ DK 'FOT'Lillee debut test 5/84 +0/40]
An umpire in that test said that 2-3 fielders told Boycott to '''#$%^&*&^%$%^'' as Geoffrey hung about
That incident was not evident to me at the time, nor if I recall exacerbated in the press of the day
If that happens in a test match now - it can be highlighted and quite possibly repeated
So yeah I agree with amBays , after all it is a subject where he is a world wide authority in

Boland first cap of the rank unquestionable.
Neser hasnt put a foot wrong but for my own personal interest and the sake of blooding a young bloke in an aging line up would have loved to see Morris come in for Hazlewood.

Re: Australian International Season 2022/23
Still have to pick a balanced pace attack. Morris is a strike bowler, who bowls shorter spells. Realistically only replaces Starc I think in this team. Playing both Starc and Morris also puts an increased workload on Green's bowling as he's required to cover more overs while they recover.mal wrote:Boland YESJim05 wrote:Neser in for Hazlewood

Neser has done his time as reserve, deserves a second test IMO.
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

The thing is its a dead rubber test
Australia lead the Daily Double test series 1-0 and have retained the Colin Croft/Rodney Hogg Cup
I hope Neser takes 10 wickets and makes 100 runs though
