Southern District 30 (Glen / ND / Uni / Bye / WT)
Adelaide 10 (Wood / Port / WT / ND / Glen)
Last year Northerns finished 9th on 100 points. The two years before that Adelaide and Sturt finished 9th on 95 points. Prior to that Woodville, West Torrens and East Torrens finished 8th, 9th and 10th on 95 points.
So it's looking likely you'll want to get over 100 points to be sure to qualify for Division 1 next season.
Usually you'd be thinking season over for the bottom 6 teams in terms of making finals - but plenty on the line, which makes every game interesting and every point valuable. Match of the round this week - Uni vs Port.

I think he will go to Queensland for three years with a red ball contract, so no they won't be getting him back unless there is a change in thinking from the people at the top.
If that's what people here are happy to support then so be it, my question to the whole organisation is what are your review processes and where is the documentation that shows you are answerable to your stakeholders , how have you responded to each part of the Hussey report?
That's cool, the proof is in outcomes. Live by the sword, die by the sword. If you can get up in the morning and look in the mirror, and say I have done the right thing by my people then we can all live with that.
The problem comes in when your assessments, are the result of outdated and antiquated thinking about young people and their development. When you don't do the work and don't listen to or even know about the research, and therefore there is no improvement in what you are doing.
Poor culture is when you are dishonest with players and their management. When you break trust you will not get it back, people work hard to be the best they can, whether they are from here or other states. Effective communication is everything.
A direct outcome of poor communication is when player management no longer sees SA as a destination because of your coaching and communication/management practices.
I personally would prefer that the head of selection, lives in the state and that every selector attends grade games every Saturday.
SACA have made their bed and are lying in it, after 41 seasons of failing to win a shield the general public are entitled to ask - what is wrong with your culture that this has become an annual event ?
Blaming grade cricket is more of the same, excuses and discounting at every turn. Yes you will get a stronger first grade, no rocket science there.
But how are you at SACA going to improve what you do with the players when you get them?

clubs will spend up big on interstate recruits at the expense of investing in club pathways/coaching, as there is only so much money to go around.
when the money runs out there are no locals, no volunteers and many juniors have found better things to do in summer.
well done! - at least there are 8 clubs in 1st division and everybody in the saca high performance area keeps their jobs regardless of their performance.

I think some clubs have been outsmarted by the saca with this. They provided enough rope.

I am not sure I would use the word 'outsmarted'
Ultimately SACA were able to have 2 divisions, they gave clubs the opportunity to sort themselves out to the best of their ability.
We needed an eight team first grade competition to improve the standard, and to improve access to coaching resources.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
**** The current process where 2 teams will be replaced at the end of the season is the height of incompetence, they need to play finals with the bottom 2 from division 1 against the top 2 from division 2 to sort out the promotion/relegation for the next season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4th grade is a waste of resources, third grade needs to be replaced by an Under 18 competition.
The junior program has way too many grades - let them play in individual competitions in under 13 and under 15 with one team each.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The connection between this restructure(which needs to happen) and the performance/culture of the Redbacks etc is very loose at best.

Agree with the 4th grade, unfortunately been on the decline for a couple of season and not sure how it develops your younger players coming through.
Agree with changing 3rd grade but as an under 19 competition with the proviso that you can play up to 3-4 overage players, this will cover your older players who would still like to be involved with a PC club and passing on there knowledge.
1 x 13's, 1 x 15's aligns with National age groups. Your better 17/18 year olds are playing 1st/2nd grade anyway.
The above suggestions would also assist the umpire department with numbers and allocation.

Presuming this competition goes by Pts Avg and then by NRR (Play HQ lists the ladder in Quotient Order) - if they give 7.5 points to the 3 games abandoned today:
Semi Finals would be Port vs TTG and Kensington vs Northern Districts.
If they replay today's washouts and push the semi and final back a week:
Port, Kensington and Northerns are still guaranteed a finals place. If Tea Tree Gully were to defeat Southern District, they'd be guaranteed a finals spot, with position depending on NRR.
If Tea Tree Gully were to lose and West Torrens were to beat Woodville, West Torrens would likely take over their position in the 4 due to superior NRR.
If Tea Tree Gully and West Torrens were to lose, Tea Tree Gully would have to hope their NRR would remain above Glenelg to keep 4th spot.

yes, a very ordinary arrangement when poor performing clubs over an extended period can just hand out buckets of cash for 1 season and be rewarded with division 1, if they make the 8!
culture. now there is a word.

I wonder how they work it out? It is clear as mud in this bylaws document: https://www.sacapremiercricket.com.au/_ ... fb87c5.pdf
On Page 44 it says, under the title of Men's West End One Day Cup:
272. If two (2) or more teams are equal on points at the end of the Minor Round, the team with the higher quotient shall occupy the higher relative position (see Bylaw 319 for the method of determining the quotient).
Then on Page 51 it says, under the title of Minor Round Positions:
321. In the Men's West End One-Day Cup, Under 18 Shield, Men's West End Twenty20, Junior Twenty20 and Women's 1st and 2nd Grade Twenty20 if two (2) or more teams gain the same number of premiership points, their relative positions shall be determined by Net Run Rate.
And then on Page 43 regarding abandoned games:
264. In matches other than the West End One-Day Cup or West End Twenty20 Cup, only matches in Grades in which the round was totally abandoned shall be rescheduled.
265. In West End One-Day Cup or West End Twenty20 Cup matches, any abandoned Minor Round match may be rescheduled.
Here is the ladder on PlayHQ:
*Tea Tree Gully / 2 games played / 15 Pts Avg / 1.860 Quotient / 1.402 Net Run Rate
Port Adelaide / 3 games played / 15 Pts Avg / 1.829 Quotient / 2.116 Net Run Rate
Kensington / 2 games played / 15 Pts Avg / 1.452 Quotient / 1.905 Net Run Rate
Northern Districts / 2 games played / 15 Pts Avg / 1.055 Quotient / 0.282 Net Run Rate
Sturt / 3 games played / 10 Pts Avg / 1.182 Quotient / -0.512 Net Run Rate
Glenelg / 3 games played / 10 Pts Avg / 1.120 Quotient / 0.542 Net Run Rate
*West Torrens / 2 games played / 7.5 Pts Avg / 1.835 Quotient / 1.788 Net Run Rate
*Tea Tree Gully and West Torrens both had abandoned games in Round 3, which under the ByLaws above, could be replayed. If Tea Tree Gully were to lose, the Pts Avg could drop to 10 and if West Torrens were to win, the Points Avg could raise to 10.
So, depending on which bylaw they take on (272 or 321), Sturt, Glenelg and West Torrens should be requesting the abandoned matches be replayed as they could still make finals.
And which rule is it regarding Quotient or Net Run Rate to determine ladder position? It looks like they have decided it is Net Run Rate based on the Semi Finals Fixtured - however ladders online have it as Quotient. According to the Bylaws, they're both right and both wrong!
If I was a cynical person, I'd be wondering if SACA Premier Cricket administrators should be the ones facing relegation.
