Re: AFLW
Have a week off in the middle of the year, kick the W season off and work towards the W GF being the week before AFL finals in the bye.
Problem with that is they'd need to play curtain raisers and the AFLPA are so precious about the surfaces they'd never allow it.

If you want to go quickly, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.
If you want to go far, go together.

It's the Clayton's footy, it wouldn't get the exposure during the mens season.

Agreed, that's why play it as the curtain raiser and people would be there to see the second half like we did with the two's back in the day.
Stand alone on a Tuesday night can't be rating very well.

Re: AFLW
Minimum 8, that was disgraceful.
One A Grade game I umpired a few years ago one of the on-ballers tried using me as a shield at a couple of ball ups, I'm usually a very relaxed person and have a laugh out on the field but I lost my shit at him once I realised what he was trying to do.

Re: AFLW
Nah, other two the girl she pushed missed the umpire, a couple of photos of it here: https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/aflw-2 ... dedCount=0
The tactic of using the umpire to try and create space has been around for at least 15 years, (2009: https://www.afl.com.au/news/535466/play ... as-shields).
That tactic had escalated recently with players, not just using the umpire to create space, but now actively pushing their opponents deliberately towards the umpire, so much so that earlier this year in the men's season, following an official complaint from the umpires association, the AFL wrote to all clubs advising they will be cracking down on the tactic.
Given the recent awareness on the topic, as well as the AFL's obligation to protect the umpires, I think they'll go fairly hard at Eilish Sheerin.
And given the three times she did it this game, its not like she can argue it was incidental or a one off time where she lost awareness of where the umpire was.

First half (first quarter in particular) was a really good, exciting brand of footy from the Port girls.
Energising from marks with overlap run and hands, came through the middle a lot, isolating forwards 1v1, tackle pressure was incredible.
The work rate of Ash Saint for a bigger forward was unreal, and Abbey Dowrick is class. The effort also from Matilda Scholz for a big ruck, and her second + third efforts was impressive. Ange Foley down back I thought was one of Port's best, rarely beaten.
My annoyance - Gemma Houghton - she's a good strong forward, but lacks awareness around her. Wasteful in the F50 at times when she could've used a team mate or straightened instead of snapping around her body or over her head.
Hammond did an excellent job on Conti for half a game, but Conti is a serious talent

Re: AFLW
I don't watch much AFLW but that was the best quality game I have seen. Free flowing footy, hopefully in the future they encourange the Women to play that way rathar than defensive styled games.
I'm sure there have been better games (as mentioned don't watch much AFLW) but it was great to watch

Re: AFLW
Crows beat Fremantle convincingly.
Port came from about four goals down at three quarter time to win by a point.
An All Adelaide Grand Final a possibility.

She might be climbing that ladder faster than I expected.
