Pretty well all one sided games

Salisbury North by 11 goals over PNU
Pt District 10 goals over SHOC
Golden Grove 44 points over St Peters
PAOC by 60 points over Broadview
Rostrevor 38 points over Glenunga

6 sides chasing 5 spots for the finals, you would think the top 3 are pretty well there

Fight on for 1 relegation spot between Glenunga, PAOC and PNU

Broadview basically have the other spot all signed sealed and delievered

A local SA footy power has sacked its coach with just seven games of the season remaining as it prepares for a tough relegation battle for the remainder of 2025.

Payneham Norwood Union coach Jeremy Cini was relieved from his role on Monday after his division one Falcons side lost its eighth game of the season to drop down into the bottom two.

Led by star players Matthew Nunn and Brad McKenzie, PNU lost out in last year’s prelim final to eventual premier Port District but has struggled throughout the 2025 season, starting the year 0-6 and failing to fully bounce back.

The club made the move to fire a disappointed Cini after a 68-point home loss to Salisbury North.

“With results being the way they were, I don’t doubt there had been ongoing discussions in the background,” said Cini, who was in his fourth year at the Falcons.

“I still had the full support of the whole playing group and I can understand it if it happened at 0-6 … we’re fighting relegation, only had seven games to go and were all highly invested in the path we had but that all goes out the window now.

“I’m just gutted for the players in a time where we should be focused on avoiding relegation … I think it has become destabilising for the group.”

Cini was appointed as coach at the end of season 2021 and helped to rebuild and develop a list which lost over 20 players at the end of the season, first dropping down to division two before achieving promotion back to the top div with a D2 grand final appearance against Golden Grove in 2023.

While he admitted he was disappointed by being let go during what had been a tough season, he said he was grateful for the opportunity the club had given him and was interested in continuing his coaching career for another outfit.

“It has been a really tough year … like a lot of these things when they end there can be a bitter taste but I’m now in a really good space after talking to all the players and my time overall has been really positive.

“I’ve got some lifelong friends at the club and while we never achieved the ultimate success I’ve managed to develop a lot of young guys to become seasoned A Grade footballers and we’ve played in some big games.

“For me now, I’ve got some interviews with a few other clubs … I’ll dust myself off now and am keen to continue coaching, wherever that will be I’m not sure yet.”

PNU vice president, David Haynes thanked Cini for his time with the Falcons and said the club felt the time was right to move on.

“We’d like to thank Jeremy for what he’s done at the club and we’re grateful to him.

“By any measure this year hasn’t panned out how we’d like it to and we felt a decision needed to be made.

“We’re now looking forward to the coming weekend and the rest of the season.”

Former Falcons assistant coach Ben Hunt, who has been coaching the Central District SANFLW side, will take over as coach for the rest of 2025.

Would they have sacked him if Centrals women's team made finals and Hunt was unavailable?

I think he would have still been sacked regardless if Centrals women made the finals or not

Seems like the PNU coach supremely confident in his ability and not really accepting the buck stops with him. Ruthless at the top flight these days.

Is that the same reason Broadview only fielded 2 teams on the weekend?

Not saying the issues were coaching related, but it takes a fair bit of time for a new coach to implement a change in game style. Much of the structure taught in preseason.

Upon saying that, coaches are the sacrificial lamb sometimes.

So if that is the case the move to change a coach mid season is a little baffling unless it reflects a cultural issue or personality clash scenario......those who make the decisions hide behind boardroom doors and don't take the wrap for a poor appointment in the first place
