Miss Viet and the Commercial closed Fossils / Korked in new hands, the Admiral barely open, the Colac development going at snails pace, the Rydges on the Wharf looks like it's not going ahead. Tough times in the Port and it seems like the endless 10 year cycle is about to hit rock bottom again.

I really can’t see it moving forward unless a a big international developer picks up most of the projects and has state government funding also.Booney wrote:Miss Viet and the Commercial closed Fossils / Korked in new hands, the Admiral barely open, the Colac development going at snails pace, the Rydges on the Wharf looks like it's not going ahead. It looks like there’s no vision with it.
Most pubs are doing it tough in that area of the Port is my understanding and being to a couple lately on Saturday nights I can see why

The state government built the Services SA building down there trying to get people into the Port, the two Quest apartments are part of 120 apartment complexes around Australia, the Rydges was meant to be moving towards the sky now but hasn't scratched the dirt.amber_fluid wrote:I really can’t see it moving forward unless a a big international developer picks up most of the projects and has state government funding also.Booney wrote:Miss Viet and the Commercial closed Fossils / Korked in new hands, the Admiral barely open, the Colac development going at snails pace, the Rydges on the Wharf looks like it's not going ahead. Re: You know you're nearing 50 in Adelaide, when you remembe
Not that this matters or not but i was down the Port a month ago for the first time in about 10 years. Had a nice healthy breakfast at some cool food joint...was a good morning.
What surprised me however was the lack of visual allegiance to Port Power there was except for when we got to Alberton Oval for the meeting we were at.
Like i said it may be a turn off for people rather than assist but for some reason i just thought they may have tried to really embrace being the home of an AFL club but never got a sense for any of that whilst down there apart from the odd black and white frontage on a building.
Maybe they have deliberately stayed away from that part.

We do tend to talk about projects here in Adelaide as opposed to making them happen like other states.wenchbarwer wrote:You know you're nearing 50 when you remember that the Port was supposed to be our version of Fremantle
It’s sad really.
Mali is doing a great job but we’re miles behind the other states.

Big renewal projects like Port Adelaide would take some planning
One would think / hope they have got something in the pipline
Considering the Boudicea status of Susan Close, I reckon they would be looking at it

They’ll be in power for the next decade, things will happen.
I reckon they have plenty of other things at the front of the queue before the Port development

The blackboards at the British where you could write graffiti
“Don’t look up here, the jokes in your hand….”

Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Re: You know you're nearing 50 in Adelaide, when you remembe
Sorry, I can't be bothered searching the thread.
Does anyone else remember the 'tube' that used to sit on the River Torrens, that was essentially a blow up tube in the shape of a three sided square with an entrance and entry on the bank of the Torrens - from memory it was clear on the top half and light blue on the bottom half. You paid money (well, my parents did) and you got to run through it and bounce off the walls. At the time, it was great fun - for the four minutes or so it lasted! And I recall there were people in there making sure we didn't run backwards. Forward motion only!
