Post by Macca19 »

Im not usually into rumour mongouring, but theres a big rumour on Bigfooty that both Ben Haynes and Marc Bullen are set to leave and play in the EDFL.

Specific thread is: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=198773&page=405

Gee westies record of holding on to these ex afl players is appalling. I don't know who is the man who makes the recruiting decisions at Richmond but it seems to be a case of trying to sign up any delisted afl player without finding out what sort of bloke he is. Central's only started improving when they decided to recruit quality not quantity.

Maybe its more of a problem with West rather than the people they recruit?

Thats what i was saying, they seem to recruit ex afl players simply because they are an ex afl player not because the guy is what the club needs.

First, you're presuming the rumours are correct.

Second, I'd think players are on contracts and couldn't play anywhere else this season.

Third, I thought I heard Bullen's name mentioned. Given that would be in addition to Alvey this year, why are you singling out West, not Port, pafc1870?

Because this sort of thing has been going on at west for 10 years. Players come and get a big pay cheque and the following year are off again in search of more $$$!

Because Port generally have a good track record of keeping not only ex AFL players, but also other interstate recruits, and I was replying to gillies8s comment rather than making a general statement on the topic

This from the club that would be allegedly paying the most player payments this year in SANFL history!

As you said mate, allegedly.I find it to be a total load of s**t that people all around the SANFL make these allegations, unfounded allegations. When the SANFL conduct a proper investigation and come to some sort of conclusion,be it the club(s) is guilty or innocent, then start throwing the mud then, until then, making comments as such either shows you have nothing remotely intelligent to say,or your club is in such a pitiful state you will take any opportunity to attempt to take the gloss of anothers image.

Rant over.

I would have thought the same RaB, but then Alvey had already been signed hadn't he before he took off to play elsewhere?

Glad you got that off your chest, Booney, but I stand by what I said. I haven't mentioned the salary cap at all, just your total player payments, which I'm sure are absolutely, totally legal.

Look at the facts, Booney, look at your player list, look at what some of them were offered by other clubs, do the sums.

Ben Haynes went to Melbourne for a players association meeting
missed a flight back on the friday and came back saturday morning.
So thats where he went when he left the state.

Apparently Haynes and the Weed are in dispute.
Haynes still has another year on his contract.

Also Doug Thomas is in hospital.

So when the SANFL conduct their investigation next year and discover that Port are above board then we can expect a written apology from you for your 18 months of saying we are cheating?

The salary cap is there to make sure the standard at SANFL level isn't as good (or gets close to) as the AFL standard. I say if any clubs breaks the salary cap, good on them.

It's a big building with patients in it-but that's not important right now.
