Lovely post ABam Bays wrote:Hope you're right mate as this is the best news re WeathersBooney wrote:Weatherald and Doggett in, Labuschagne at 3.
My little old cricket club from Darwin has produced a test cricketer. Other clubs up there have produced T20 and ODI Australian representatives (Short - Palmo, Richardson - Tahs) but no Darwin raised cricketer has ever played test cricket. Others have come through there like Webster, Hughes and McSweeny and played cricket in the off season rather than go to England and then played test cricket but no Darwin raised cricketer has a baggy green.
Test cricket has been going for almost 150 years and there are barely 470 Australian test cricketers for one of them to come from our club there in Larrakeyah (Darwin CC) is such a reward for the hardworking people who built the club 50 years ago. I'm sure there are many others on here who've been part of a community cricket club that has produced a Test Cricketer, and kudos and respect to you but for Darwin and the NT this is a first.
Kudos to Jake as he's done the work
if you're wrong and I've shot my load early Booney you're mince meat!!
Great day for Darwin and your old club
Lets hope Jake has a BIG game

Re: The Ashes 25/26
Awesome to see Jake get his deserved chance. Who doesn't love to see someone who has battled so hard both on the field and off the field in his personal life.
I just hope he gives himself a chance and plays in that dynamic fashion he plays in the shield.
Looking forward to watching the first test.

Tough call on Webster, hope he gets another crack soon.
The length of the tail is a concern.... hope the top 6-7 get the job done.

Yep tough call on Webster but it's better to be squeezing blokes out than squeezing them in.Corona Man wrote:Given the injuries, this was what had to happen.Booney wrote:Weatherald and Doggett in, Labuschagne at 3.

it's a good team, over to the 11 blokes your time to perform and put the soap dodgers back in their rightful place
And if someone wants to shove that trumpet up the collective arses of the barmy army it's all right by me. if I want to hear a trumpet player I'd go to the festival theatre not the Adelaide oval

Brendan Doggett and Jake Weatherald will become men's Baggy Green cap numbers 472 and 473 respectively after Steve Smith confirmed the pair would debut in the NRMA Insurance Ashes series opener at Perth Stadium.
Australia will field multiple debutants in an Ashes Test for the first time since the 2010-11 New Year's Test when Usman Khawaja and Michael Beer played their first games.
Australia XI for first Test: Usman Khawaja, Jake Weatherald, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith (c), Travis Head, Cameron Green, Alex Carey (wk), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Brendan Doggett, Scott Boland

Re: The Ashes 25/26
Personally would've played Webster ahead of Lyon but I won't begrudge the selectors opting for our greatest wicket taking off spinner, I hope he does well.
I'm glad that we're trying something new and the fact that we're rewarding consistent shield performances.
I do have my concerns about our batting though, whoever is batting when Starc gets out will have to get the skates on.

Re: The Ashes 25/26
I too was concerned about our batting, and would have left out the third quick for an extra all-rounder.
But then I recalled that wonderful partnership Doggett put on at Adel Oval on NYE last year:

Re: The Ashes 25/26
Not a bad forecast apart from Saturday where there is 80% of rain
Pretty mild temps as well for Perth
Lets hope no rain interuptions unless England are well on top, then it can bucket down

Re: The Ashes 25/26
Ok. Prediction time so we can avoid end of summer experts
Australia 4-0
Most Runs Australia - Head, one innings and he will be off and running.
Mos Wickets Australia- Scotty Boland to ensure the statue gets built
Most Runs England- Joe Root to finally prove his critics wrong over here. Will get that elusive 100.
Most Wickets England- Atkinson to feed off the hard work from Archer and Wood
Biggest Flop Australia- Khawaja- Wood and Archers pace to be a bit to much for the near 40 year old.
Biggest Flop England- Bashir or Carse
