That’s effectively what I said Bedge. But I don’t like it and I reckon plenty of Athelstone folk wouldn’t either. This guy is new to the club this year out of WWT so presumably the coach has got him to the club. So a bloke missed out on an A grade game last week and again this week for a bloke that many at the club probably wouldn’t recognise if they walked past him in the street.

Spare me on that front please.Down the Hill wrote:I’m with the Joker on this. Let’s not beat around the bush. A lad named Calvett played R1 for Athelstone when his primary club was WWT. Played a few Res. Games for WWT then heads to Port as a top up. Plays 4 games for Port then his next 2 games in the Athelstone C grade (give me a spell). Then plays no footy for several weeks before resuming games with Port. Then Athelstone get him in for a game in their A grade in Round 17. So that was his AdFL minor round. 2 A grade and 2 very dubious C grade.
OK, so he may have suited up for the C grade and made it on the ground for a few minutes but surely a please explain is in order. If there is no proof he didn’t “play” those C grade games then the Regs say he is qualified. Doesn’t mean it’s right and very very poor form from a club that is generally regarded as a model citizen.
If he got a guernsey on and sat on the C Grade bench and didn’t play a minute he’s good to go and qualified as far as I’m
concerned.
Only really an issue if they’ve named a player who didn’t show up (at which point given how early it was in the season I kind of admire the hustle …) or played someone else under a false name.
Have to have a pretty good memory of an early season c grade game to cause any issue for the Raggies I’d have thought

Re: 2024 Adelaide Footy League -Division 2
Yeah I get it but you are virtually saying you are also OK with the bloke doing that C grade suiting up business for all 4 games to qualify. Those C grade were R11 and R12 so not that long ago. it is what it is I suppose. Things get way too complicated if you start bringing in more caveats with the 4 game qualification rule. As it is the league removed the ability to name a team when you receive a forfeit due to Broadview spoiling that party with Jessie White. That was a sensible rule but a club was seen to clearly abuse it so it was taken away from the rest of us. Anyway, play on.

That forfeit rule is dog shit and needs tinkering - we had legit B/C grade players who missed out on qualifying for finals as a result.
Yeah 18 games in a season should be no excuse, but if you name a side Thurs night and they forfeit Friday it should stand.. or set rules like can’t name someone from a higher division if they played the week before like other bye rounds.
Back to the Athelstone situation, some responsibility should go to the oppo Team Manager to remove blokes from the sheet that aren’t playing.. if a dude is coming down from A grade or SANFL, you can’t tell me no one on the oppo would’ve picked up on that at the time and queried it?!?

Let’s be legit. There is no chance he played C grade. He was out from the magpies and listed on the injury list for the next few weeks until he played for them again.
Athelstone hiding stuff and cheating the system.
The same as the footage from the anything is content TikTok handle.
Funny how it’s been deleted. Showed the Athelstone bloke stunned and [emoji817] concussed
And I bet he plays this week.

haha they took that down did they............brilliant.
The caption was 'Should this bump be weeks"
It backfired on them with everyone commenting on how the Athlestone player 100% has to miss this week due to his concussion which was clear as day in the footage.

Right, this is a different matter altogether. Suiting up for a lower grade game to qualify for finals has been done for eternity.the joker wrote:Let’s be legit. There is no chance he played C grade. Not sure he actually has to take the field anymore, so long as he's on their team sheet. And, when you have 25 players on the team sheet for the C's, there's always a spot you can use!wenchbarwer wrote: Right, this is a different matter altogether. But he at least has to look like he's playing, yeah? Put on the gear and sit on the bench?MoP wrote:Not sure he actually has to take the field anymore, so long as he's on their team sheet. I'll think you'll find there's no such requirement.wenchbarwer wrote: But he at least has to look like he's playing, yeah? Put on the gear and sit on the bench?
And, if there is, there's no way of policing it.
Update: Looks like I was incorrect.
Rule 36.23 (d) The two Member Club's Team Managers shall confirm with each other at the half time break of the match being played all players listed on the two Team Sheets are in attendance at the venue and are attired in official playing uniform. If a player listed on either Team Sheet does not meet these requirements, the player's name shall be removed from the Field Umpire's copy of the Team Sheet and the player may not be replaced and shall be deemed not to have played in the match.

What's the oval like at Campbelltown these days with a little bit of rain?

Its a great surface. I've been there twice in the last few weeks and its a great deck. Gets a lot of traffic on it with all the other crap they do on there...touch footy, Frisbee golf and whatever else seems to occupy it each night.
You would be happy playing a final at that venue, the place has it all and parking across the road was very handy.

There's a fair bit of sand in the soil.Arch44 wrote:What's the oval like at Campbelltown these days with a little bit of rain?
I haven't been there for a while but there use to be some puddles in front of the grand stand and a bit of mud in the cricket pitch area
But everywhere else on the oval is always pretty good

Caleb Barton has miraculously escaped a concussion diagnosis to play the GF despite taking a massive hit last week that saw him flawed for ages.
