I can't agree Shark, and to be honest I don't believe any form of government should have a say in how any organisation is run (provided it is legal obviously).

What happens next, Pembroke get relegated from ATCA's A1 and the competition gets taken to court?
The premier's child doesn't get picked in the under 11 B-grade and we have a senate enquiry?

The only reason I think the state government gets a look in here is because the state government recently gave SACA a $600m stadium.

What have your examples got to do with anything that is happening Trader? Not sure you get it.

Correct, with the exception of the state government funding SACA's stadium, I don't get why there would be any reason for government to get involved with the running of any organisation.

It is a bit hard to find info on, but from what I heard it would take at least a month to get anything confirmed. Have you heard something?

you can search for the current inquiries underway.....nothing as of yet. Seriously doubt they would get the numbers required

According to the East Torrens Facebook page they've pulled Trent Keep out of Tasmania for next season. Looks like the kid can bat, has a hundred in the futures on debut. Any other signing rumours floating around?

Would have thought they would be chasing bowlers after they told one of theirs not to return towards the end of the season.......

wonder what prompted the move? Doubtful that he would be an instant addition to the Redbacks setup.

How's the paranoia from Glenelg with their letter to members! Laughable! Has nothing to do with Glenelg besides their two SACA board members in Bob Snewin and whatshername being a part of a shifty SACA board and not wanting to get found out!

To all present and past players, managers, volunteers & supporters

As you all know SACA have nominated the Port Adelaide and West Torrens District Cricket Clubs as the two Club from which one will be eliminated from the 1st Grade (A Grade) competition in 2016/17, unless a meger of the two clubs is achieved.

The State Government is planning to establish a parliamentary committee to investigate the proposed merger in the Premier Cricket competition on May 18th.

We feel that this committee will unfairly target the Glenelg District Cricket Club and only cause more angst and pain in the local cricket community.

We are confident about Glenelg's position as a standalone club. Glenelg has elite players, a world-class ground and a strong community of people who love this club.

It is not the role of government to tell us to merge or close. No one spoke to us about the government's plans and our voice has deliberately been ignored up to this point.

How can you help us stop this?

Contact your state MP, the Government and Opposition and tell them that you oppose the committee.

Government Minister for Sport Leon Bignell: ministerleonbignell@sa.gov.au and 8226 1210

Opposition Shadow Minister for Sport Tim Whetstone: chaffey@parliament.sa.gov.au and 8582 4230

We appreciate your support in this matter and look forward to competing in the new season of the 12 team Premier league competition.

SACA Board meeting was Monday night. How dodgy are they. As if the parliament enquiry is about the government telling Glenelg to merge or fold! Has nothing to do with them. Clearly a ploy by SACA to get people to prevent an enquiry - in any way possible!

I agree with others, the enquiry shouldn't be needed, but this SACA Board is so shady in looking after their own individual interests that it needs to be held accountable by someone!

Was sent to Members/Past Players etc today by their secretary, Alan Scholz. Could not stop laughing for ages after reading it, was that bad! Because of the mis truths being tools by Bradshaw, Beherndt and Sinclair to the SACA Board, it makes you think they gave info to Glenelg so they would take this action. They are worried about the Parliamentry Enquiry pending, and that they will now be targeted to merge, calling on their Members to approach all "their" politicians, etc to stop it. As Aerie said, has nothing to do with Glenelg, besides them poaching all our Women's players for their new teams! Just continues this joke even further - is this really happening or is it all a dream??

Clearly Glenelg are spooked at something......as to what for I have NFI.

Again the real issue is avoided here again. West Torrens have all the juniors and Port Adelaide have none! with out juniors there is no club as they supply the future senior players.

on the Women's issue I immediately thought of 2 things when they announced that at the end of the season gee that is ambitious starting with nothing to 2 senior teams and I bet they will try to steal all the West Torrens Girls. Also it has forced Adelaide to speed up their plans for Women's cricket as we are now being squeezed by 2 clubs either side of us for girls.

However I did hear from someone with considerable influence on the West Torrens Women's side that they would prefer to stay together if things went south. Which means either Glenelg or some other club that does not currently have women's teams

Spooked because they would have been relying on poaching WT women's players to fill their 2 teams.
Not like Alan Scholz to try get involved in something that doesn't involve him.

So the answer by the SACA board to this is a new club, based at Port Adelaide, but with juniors expected to graduate from Henley and play senior cricket at Port Adelaide?

Just flick off that club that has a strong junior program, has won a quarter of the senior club championships on offer this century, has a sustainable financial model and training and playing facilities as good as any.

If I was a junior at Henley ready to play seniors, would I pick the facilities closer at Woodville? Would I go to Glenelg where I also play footy because Henley is now Glenelg footy zone and is just as close as Port Adelaide. Or would I travel to good old Port Adelaide Reserve - which is actually a worse ground than I played my U16 Reds season?

Or the alternative is to not merge and risk being essentially kicked out or having funding cut?

The real answer, if SACA really have to get to 12 teams, is to lay out the criteria. Process the criteria for ALL clubs. Display the results. Make a decision if there are no willing mergers. If West Torrens are the weakest link, then I'll eat my old baggy blue and accept my club being axed. I don't even think Port Adelaide would be the weakest link and neither were Woodville.

Just gets worse - Glenelg now claim they, and other Clubs, were asked by SACA to get info out to members, etc to stop this Parliamentry enquiry. What an absolute disgrace SACA are. What right do they have to do this, turning other Clubs against WT and PA. They really do have lots to hide and are extremely worried about when the truth comes out. Bradshaw, Sinclair and Behrnhardt should all be forced to resign the way they have stuffed up this whole mess! And they can take the rest of the SACA Board with them!

The Oyster new of the Parliamentary enquiry, but remained quite until it was all announced.
If Alan Scholz, Glenelg, or the SACA board have nothing to hide, then why worry about trying to prevent the Parliamentary enquiry?
The SACA did not count on both West Torrens and Port Adelaide having the clout in the community that they have - did they?
Never, ever, ever take on a mungril dog, because the mungril dog will fight to the death. I don't think the SACA expected this response.
If everyone has nothing to hide then what is is there is worry about?
I'm not sure where Glenelg were mentioned in despatches as being the target of anyone or any committee?
Why is good ol' Alan worried so much and urging people to contact their local MP's to stop the enquiry. What has Alan got to hide?
Alan - if you're so confident about Glenelg's ability to stand alone then why draw attention to yourself, so shut the f*** up.

West Torrens and I am sure the Swampys are also confident in their position as a stand alone club. Both West Torrens and the Swampys have elite players, good facilities and a strong community of people who love their club. Both clubs have won an A grade flag far more recently than
Glenelg, so I am guessing that is bothering him. Maybe good ol' Alan is worried that the lack of success down the Bay, might count against them.

Anyway the Parliamentary enquiry is set in stone, so lets see what little bits and pieces get dragged to the surface, shall we.
It will be interesting. I for one are already smiling as I know many of the answers :D :D :D :D
As I said a few weeks ago and no one believed me. Get the pop corn out, put the beers on ice, and get the deck chair ready, for the fireworks
And Alan ol' chap. If you are looking at "competing in the new season of the 12 team Premier league competition", then you'll be disappointed.

So there's a parlimentary enquiry, what a farce, if SACA cant run the comp how they want to, the politicians may as well run it. Its SACA's right to do what they think is in the best interest of the comp, I dont care who is right or wrong, its got nothing to do with parliament and you are clutching at straws to get them involved.
Just wind both clubs up if they want to go down this path, create a new comp and dont invite them to partake, simple
