Quite frankly, we were lucky. But **** we were due for some luck on Grand Final day

Yes, haven't had much GF luck since the win over Scotch - not to suggest you weren't good enough on the day or anything, but one of my most vivid memories of watching amateur football is when that Scotch bloke up-kicked the PNU player in the nuts and got red-carded for the whole game.

From memory we gave Tyler Brimacombe best on ground for the nous of getting kicked in the nuts by Paul Cahill who was probably one of the best players in the SAAFL at the time.

Winning the toss with the freak wind blowing was pretty lucky

Honestly think the run PNU had with the umps in the first quarter and a half was far more decisive than the wind

Agree, they got numerous soft free kicks that ended up resulting in goals, gave them the momentum they needed. Unusual to see so many soft free kicks paid in a Grand Final.

So happy for Macca they won, completes the journey he set out on to take them from Div 4 to now finally win that elusive Div 1 flag. Thoroughly deserved, hope they had a huge night celebrating. Very gracious by Backwell also, lots of class shown.

Bit of a parallel with the Bays in that 86 was the last payneham D1 flag (admittedly in SAFA rather than the SAAFL)

Having a think about some of our neighbouring leagues and Hahndorf and Flagstaff Hills respective dominance it's a pretty healthy sign for our comp that we've had 5 different premiers in the last five years (along with Henley and SPOC both winning ones in recent memory)

Yeah, you are right though, it's very healthy for the AdFL to have varying winners.

In the APFL, 6 of the 8 clubs have won a premiership in the last 9 years.

Henley B grade back to back flags - is that 6x Grand Finals in a row for the B grade coach Sam Heeps?

Fair effort.

Not quite Bedge. In 2016 they made the D1R Prelim from 5th but like this season the A grade finished bottom and the club was relegated from D1.

Quite an interesting stat from the three Premiers on Saturday with only Henley having another team in their top 3 grades to make finals.

PNU 1st in D1 - 9th and 10th in D1R and C1
Henley 1st in D1R - 10th and 5th in D1 and C1
Uni 1st in C1 - 8th and 8th in D1 and D1R

And the other D1 relegated club TTG won the D grade (Club 18) flag.

Probably highlights the top end talent you need to be a genuine chance for a shot at the flag in D1 and how fine the line is between that and getting relegated even if you have pretty good depth such as Henley. But that PNU stat is surely quite unique. Their A grade won 16 games and won the flag yet their B & C grade only won 6 games between them.

I meant the coach, not the side.

Thanks "heeps". I've now discovered he had a B grade stint at Pulteney before Henley. I forgot that you are the spokesperson for multi-club B grade coaches.

Yes sam heeps coached pulteney reserves 2 seasons ago or one of those clubs, pembroke maybe

His old man is the div 1 medalist from about 1978 or around there. Played for henley for many years did paul

Yes div 1 u need at least 4 or 5 ex sanfl type players to get close to div 1 flag and also an sanfl experienced coach most of the time.

They only give medal in the A Grade.

Thought Liam Davis was BOG for PNU, definitely was the match winner.

Ah, no worries, I know a young lad from Henley that goes alright.

Did Cameron Milne play in the Grand Final on the weekend?

How did he go at Div 1 level?

Yes.

Exceptionally well.

That the two years hes played have led to a flag and a grand final appearance is no coincidence. He's comfortably the best ruck in the comp.

Sweet!!

Great lad an a really decent footballer.

Always felt sorry for him at Centrals, everytime he started to play really well he always got a significant injury.
