Re: Australian Tour to Sri Lanka - Jan 2025
Konstas (19) FC average 39, Inglis (29) FC average 36
Konstas has some flaws in his game but he needs matches at this level even if he's batting at 5 before we take on the POMs next year.

Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Smith wins the toss and Australia will bat first. Debut for Inglis, Murphy and Kuhnemann both playing.

The Australian's have continually talked about how they like Inglis' batting against spin and rate him as a very good player of spin so I guess they consider him as a conditions based/horses for courses selection. Hopefully he goes well.

Re: Australian Tour to Sri Lanka - Jan 2025
This non selection takes me back a year or so ago when George Bailey dropped Travis Head.
Changing the team on what May happen in the future makes as much sense as a night watchman.
Still think Smith Captaining is a worse decision.

If that's the way the selectors are thinking then we're in more trouble than I thought.
You don't aim to be replacing a player 'during' a series, let alone an Ashes series. We've got 5 or 6 tests this year before the Ashes to be finding our best lineup.
I just look at Khawaja being 38, in patchy form and without a big score in a while, the probability of him making runs in the Ashes is low. Not zero, but really low.
Occam's razor, folks - I really don't think it could be much clearer that it's in the interests of the team for Khawaja to be the first dropped, and I've never previously had anything bad to say about the bloke or his batting.
If Uzzie can make major runs in the Shield next season before the Ashes, and there's a place for him due to injury/another batsman's poor form, then by all means consider him. But runs should be the prerequisite IMO.
Yeah, definitely worded incorrectly, I rushed my post trying to tend to some work and find our schedule for the remainder of the year. I think they will rely on Usman to retire and it won't be until the SCG test. I think he'll do enough to keep his spot for the opening Ashes test.

Good call!
Head should be captain and batting at 5.
Konstas to open.

Inglis has played half his career on Perth decks so not sure where this “plays well against spin” BS comes from. The Dark Knight wrote::)The Bedge wrote:The Dark Knight wrote:A good consideration but Inglis is right handed though? The Bedge wrote:I wonder if Khawaja and Inglis are also preferred as left handers against Jayasuriya?

Only spin is coming from the selectors

I'd sooner see Head concentrate on making runs........................but at number 5.
Although I'm not a fan of Smith being captain, the process of elimination sort of leads him to be the only apt choice, Carey would be NIL for mine.

Heads made plenty of runs of late and deserves the captaincy IMO
Smith isn’t even a good captain….. great player but very average captain

I’ve seen more people at an Eagles v South match at Woodville Oval.

With 254 people there I reckon Jeaksy and Jake in their Port kit will get some airtime.

Haven’t seen a worse 9, 10 and 11 in the Aussie colours for a long time
Hopefully we don’t need them to score runs
