Steve Smith seems to go alright with an unconventional technique, Jake seems to continue to score runs against quality opposition.

Agreed, definitely getting consistent A's on his report cards thus far.

Of the redbacks regulars: Cosgrove: B grader. Should be an A grader but doesn't have the consistency Cooper: C grader now. Was a handy player for a long time but first class cricket looks to be past him now. Ferguson: A grader, consistent, huge loss for us this half of the season. Head: Could be anything, will be an A grader soon enough but right now is a low B at best. Will get there but needs time. Ross: C grader. Not bad in the short forms of the game (just going by memory), but can't seem to make a run in the traditional format. Raphael: our go to 'next in line' when someone gets dropped. C grader, potential to be a B grader? Lehmann: very promising and exciting youngster. Great start to his career, too early to grade him but could be anything
I'm gonna break my rusty cage and run

What about the next tier of players coming through? Any that could become quality A graders in the coming years? Weatherald, Page Jnr, Keath?

17 matches, 33 knocks, average of 25 with a highest score of 65.
Doesnt seem to get an extended run in the side, but also probably an indication of the lack of depth that he is continually the next in line.

Possibly A grade talent, but definite C grade output.

Going in with four quicks in Perth? Sayers back which is handy.

Travis Head and Alex Ross, I have no idea how they are both still being picked for the shield side. We need to target an opener and another middle order batsman next year. Plus with Ferguson back in, it would be huge. Will Bosisto and Marcus Harris come to mind. Both young and have shown they can do it at the next level. We need some pressure put on Head for his spot to make him flourish IMO. No depth in the batting department means no pressure on Travis for his spot.

In all seriousness Tim Evans deserves a crack IMO and then there is John Dalton who is also a class young bat

Agree, Tim Evans is the one. Would have to be the unluckiest bloke around to not have played a Shield game, made a mountain of runs at both A Grade and Second X1 matches over many years, but has not had a look in.
Bit like how Chadd Sayers had to take 60 wickets a season for three years in a row before Darren Berry finally took over and gave him ago.
