Yes, sjt, they own Port, so not only can they 'take over' the Board, but they should probably do so.

Not if it was the only way to keep a team afloat and preserve the level of TV rights money they want to claim.
I agree with you totally, CP. That's my argument. The AFL don't care about the SANFL, they'd like to see it weakened, but the success of AFL football in SA is far more important to them. They don't want to jeopardise that.

Additionally, by putting the money in there may be conditions attached that can be harmful to the SANFL competition. We will find out more next Friday.

I think we agree. As you stated above. The AFL want and need the AFL teams in this state to survive and probably even be competitive. But they don't give a rats clacker (no it's not similiar Centurion

Re: West Coast/Freo Reserves in WAFL proposal
How many years are we giving it until the SANFL is a 'feeder style comp.
Teams having to have 18 players under 23 and only 3 over aged players.
Mid season drafting and trading will be in full swing and we will have our first player who goes from playing against South at Noarlunga in front of 1500 people to playing against Collingwood at the G infront of 80K.

Well here is the first step if you want to help fightback.
http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/polls/popup/-/poll_id/61565
Its a WA newspaper poll on the WAFL submission.
In many ways I feel that the decision on what happens with reserves here will be determined by the result out west
So lets give some support to our WAFL brethen to help them hold firm

Good news for us!
If it works well we can look at implementing it here.
If it fails dismally we lose nothing and keep on going as we are.

IF
PA[1997-2011] have a reserves team in the SANFL
What happens to the existing PA [1870-2011]
Will the one club become 3 clubs ?

Re: West Coast/Freo Reserves in WAFL proposal
Quote "CUTTERMAN, I also think you’ve hit the nail on the head by saying the AFL don’t understand the market in SA and WA. I think this is the problem, not the various conspiracy theories that abound. If the AFL had wanted to destroy the SANFL, they wouldn’t have been trying to do it on a dri[p-feed basis. The SANFL is very strong right now, which defies the ‘AFL out to destroy us’ argument. Your take on it is exactly right, IMO."
I don't think they want to destroy the SANFL but they do want total control of the issues that concern their own self-serving designs.
I think it's time for anyone who really cares about our comp and our clubs to start to protest publicly. If you go to an AFL game take your SANFL scarf, make up a sign saying something like "Take your stinking paws off my SANFL you damned dirty ape." Get behind the goals so the cameras can't avoid you. If you're at a telecasted SANFL game get the same sign infront of the camera. Organize a group of SANFL cheer squads to book tickets behind the goals at a POWER or Crows game with a larger flag/banner saying SANFL SUPPORTERS UNITED AGAINST AFL CONTROL.
Try to align with WAFL clubs.
There's alot that can be done on the cheap. The AFL are trying to hijack our game so we can do the same to them.

See that's another reason why the honeymoon is over, you're not allowed to have a bit of fun, players and officials aren't allowed to have an opposing opinion.

Re: West Coast/Freo Reserves in WAFL proposal
When Adelaide floated this idea previously I think the proposition was, as some sort of compromise, that the two AFL Reserves sides wouldn't take premiership points from their games. But if that happened, the SANFL sides would just treat those games like a bye, rest their best players and field a reduced-strength team, which pretty much defeats the purpose of entering that competition.
If the SANFL clubs don't come out and reject this notion, there'll be blood on the streets.

As it presently stands 38% say No to AFL reserve teams in the WAFL & 46% say Yes - However if you add the 15% who say there should be a National AFL reserves comp then effectively the No vote is 53% !! Gotta love statistics
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

Pseudo's 'Hands Off the SANFL' rally would fit that bill.
'People are not stupid. They know when they are being conned. And two reserves teams operating in a League competition will reduce it to a farce, a competition without a soul.'

Re: West Coast/Freo Reserves in WAFL proposal
If the main objective of any club in the SANFL is not to win the premiership, they shouldn't be playing.
If the Crows and Power must have reserves sides, they should either be in the SANFL Reserves competition or in the VFL/AFL reserves comp.
