Re: Full 2016 SANFL Draw
A Crows home game at Thebarton!? How do West Adelaide fans feel about this? Is it concerning having to compete with another SANFL team on your home territory? Eagles know what it's like, having to put up with Port Adelaide playing home games in our zone.

Harden up some of you. I expect none of you will attend another SANFL game the way some carry on.
Credit to Sturt for trying to make things work. Obviously said , well no Crows fans rock up at Unley so why not try and make some money by exploring a collaborative agreement. Hats off to clubs that actually THINK .

Re: Full 2016 SANFL Draw
It's not much of a meaningful ongoing agreement if it's only a one-off. Credit to Sturt for negotiating the financial burden on the guilty party, and one who can very, very easily afford to pay, if only for one week.

Any club which could THINK would have voted NO to this shemozzle in the first place.

If North or Power finish top they will have 3 weeks twiddling their thumbs waiting for their first final!
Amazing programming indeed.
The only thing correct in the draw is scheduling North for a last round bye - some assumptions are no brainers given we only just won ONE game this year!
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

Why give any club the bye in the last round when there's an even amount of teams?
Absolutely dumb!

I agree Wedgie - no byes was one of the selling point "lies" of AFL Reserves inclusion.
Apparently a number of clubs are very angry about the draw. Time they grow balls and take back control and let the 8 traditional clubs run the comp. Simple really!

Re: Full 2016 SANFL Draw
If they want a template for running a 10 team comp to finish the week before the AFL grand final they dont need to look far. The SAAFL, BL&G, YPFL, HILLS.
Starts April 9th, June long weekend bye for everyone (State Game) , another bye for everyone in July for state country championships (could have bye for everyone at a suitable time 3-4 weeks out from finals). But that doesnt suit 2 of the clubs objectives

Re: Full 2016 SANFL Draw
Leaving aside the AFL involvement in the VFL while the fixture may not be perfect, at least the VFL fixture only has 2 byes, along with night and twilight footy in season 2016.

Re: Full 2016 SANFL Draw
I wonder how the AFL clubs Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide feel about the SANFL byes ?
About their 2 reserves teams in the SANFL
At times :
Will it be suitable to have byes to freshen players ?
Or
Will it be unsuitable to have byes as players may need match conditioning ?
Overall will it help or hinder their A grade teams ?

Indeed. This farce persists partly because the clubs themselves allow it. Time to grow a set.

Re: Full 2016 SANFL Draw
How good is the VFL television coverage?!!!!!!
They've published the first 15 rounds - one game every week (note: not round, but week) PLUS a second game each round for four weeks (that's 18 matches in 15 rounds and assuming that trend of one match a week will continue all season, that's 24 games across 18 rounds).
Compare that to our deal for the last two seasons where we can't even get one game some weeks. AND definitely not a second.

And when you make the comparison, remember the "extra media exposure" that the clowns were supposed to bring to the competition; a major selling point to those who voted for this farce.

I'm sure they're somewhere in that grey area between being tickled pink and not giving a tinker's cuss.

Yet I've seen a couple of comments saying the club's knocked back the option of two extra matches. Need to know definitively if this is the case before blaming the easy target.

Could we conclude Sturt lose money on a Crows game and didnt want it with their additional costs for fencing etc?
don't forget that sturt WILL make money from the Crows when they host a NAB game.
DOUBLE BLUES GAME AGAINST ADELAIDE MOVES TO THEBBY.
In a proactive move to further promote the SANFL Sturt and Adelaide Football Clubs have agreed to shift next season's Round 15 game on Saturday 9 July to Thebarton Oval .
Given that all Adelaide Football Club games are played as away games, the match was set to be played at Peter Motley Oval prior to Sturt requesting the game be moved.
Sturt's General Manager of Business Sue Dewing said that the idea was raised with the Crows earlier in the year and that it would be beneficial to Sturt.
"Importantly we will retain the gate and catering revenue and our members' home match tickets can be used to enter," said Ms Dewing.
"We're also confident of a big crowd. The Crows play Carlton the next day in Melbourne and we think that Adelaide supporter numbers will be solid.
"Thebarton is a quality facility with an excellent playing surface and we're really comfortable in shifting this fixture and believe it will be a success.
"The opportunity presented itself and we weighed up the benefits against losing a game at Unley and the Board saw it as a positive move.
"Our own fans have always supported the boys away in strong numbers, so we expect this to be a great day for Sturt fans and for SANFL football.
Some additional benefits include;
• A commitment from the Adelaide Football Club that it will cover the majority of associated match day costs;
• The opportunity for the Adelaide Football Club to market the fixture to their members as their 'home game' to boost crowd numbers;
• The opportunity for the Adelaide Football Club to organise a lightning carnival for junior footballers prior to the game; and
• Some of our volunteers who assist on home match days will get a rare break from setting up, working during the game and packing up.
There is no agreement for this fixture to be switched in future seasons.
Both clubs will conduct a transparent post match review.
Kind regards
Sue Dewing
General Manager Business.
