Is it just me, or does that portrait of Phil Hughes look a heck of a lot like Paul Kelly?

On this day in 2014....

NSW v SA 2/136 Phil Hughes retired hurt for 63 off 161
48.3 Stumps have been drawn on this sad day.
48.3 We have just been advised that play has been abandoned for the day. No further news yet on Phillip Hughes welfare. Cricket NSW have advised that he has been taken to Saint Vincents hospital and that the duty doctor will provide a full update in due course
48.3 The ambulance has now left with Phillip Hughes and a specialist. Further news as we know it.
48.3 Ambulance Service helicopter has now arrived with another doctor.
48.3 An ambulance has arrived now, we'll keep you posted as soon as we have further news.
48.3 The match referee has advised that tea will be taken now.
48.3 Phillip Hughes is heading off here on a stretcher on a buggy. They're holding his head and it doesn't look at all good. All the players are now coming off.
48.3 He's been leaving the short balls, had a go at this one, misjudged it and hit in the head. He blacked out and fell badly. Medics are assisting now.
48.3 Abbott to Hughes, no run, problem here, misses a pull shot and hit, urgent treatment needed
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

It was a very numb helpless feeling sitting here watching it all unfold on here amongst internet friends who were all feeling the same empty feeling.

Hoping and praying for good news but as each hour passing we started anticipating the worst.

Out of all the celebrity deaths this was the one that shook me.

I have to be honest when I bat these days whether it be in the nets or gameday I now appreciate the need to concentrate each ball and respect the potential consequences a lot greater than I ever did before.

Agree - i'm not one who really gives much thought about celebrities that pass away probably because I don't actually know them.. but this one rocked me.

I wasn't a fan of the helmet rule coming in, but funnily enough i'm still wearing one even though the restrictions have been relaxed - a little voice in the back of my head that tells me i'm getting older and not seeing them like I used to, better than copping one flush.

One good thing about FB memories that come up each day are these type of gems.

Image

Not the most exciting photo, but for my efforts of 10 hours on an overnight bus to Melbourne, followed by another 10 hour bus ride home the following night, I got to see Phil Hughes smash 100 on the MCG. A memory I’ll cherish forever

SCG Australia v India ODI
At 4:08pm E.S.T. the scoreband screen had a visual tribute of the late Phillip Hughes
The score in the match, at the time , was Australia 0/84 , eerily the 3 same numbers in 408 as well
