Not really an apple fan, I do find that Woolies or Coles watermelon tastes like it has tobacco in it.

I rarely buy produce from supermarkets anymore.

Can be that time of year when last autumn's crop is being run down.
Also, some growers might keep back quality apples or other produce (eg pears) for the Christmas season.

But who know where our apples and pears come from with the numbers of growers who have got out over the last 10 or so years due to it being unviable anymore, even though we can grow pretty good stuff right on our doorstep. One hills apple grower about 5 years ago told me about a Victorian grower was looking to expand , but my memory is a bit hazy - it was either to be the exclusive supplier of Pink Ladies to all Coles and Woolies around Australia, or the exclusive supplier of Pink Ladies and Grannies to all Woolies around Australia. He had no idea where this would leave him.

I eat around 10-12 apples a week so I get through a batch pretty quickly, just found the ones recently have been really poor quality.

Yeah, so do I, and have found them up and down over the last couple weeks too, but that is not unusual for this time of year.
