No sympathy. He belted one of our players in the neck and didn't get caught. If you want to tread a thin line of thuggery and abuse, be prepared for the consequences. Clearly doesn't learn and probably won't make it to the end of the season without getting done again.

Rules are in place to protect them and if you break them you’ll be dealt with harshly.
Especially if your record is poor
I reckon some players need to grow a thicker skin. How many times do we see a player infringe on an opponent & take out their frustration (of being beaten in a one on one) towards the umpire.

Wasn't after sympathy mate but thanks for clarifying there isn't any...
I was just providing my thoughts on players (any player) being suspended for making a comment to an umpire, feel free to comment on this if you like.

Were his other 8 weeks of suspension all for umpire abuse?
If so he's a ******* idiot.
If not suggesting it's just umpire abuse that has got him to this point and not a repeated pattern of behaviour is disingenuous.

For sure, some players nearly cry because you ping them for holding the ball or illegal disposal, like really? Even better when their team mate has a jibe about it on his way past you not long after.

Take the hairy mong Woodward out of the discussion.. what Cossi is trying to say is 3 games for saying shit to an umpire is over the top - so people agree or disagree.

Yet when it's brought up at the start of season coaches/president's meetings no one has a problem with it.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 7 - 2018
Have a look at Rugby Union. I was brought up to call umpires "Sir" let alone abuse them.
Still. There has to be some room to express emotion. Provided it's not personal I think the umps should let that go.
If he's walked up to the ump and said "you got the 3 votes today you ****" after the game then that's intimidating and worthy of suspension. If he said "ohhh for **** sake!" In the middle of the game for being denied a free, different story.
Determining that line is the key.

The reason I ask. Is that you should agree that umpire's don't usually cop huge amounts of abuse at the higher divisions. Normally it comes from the lower divisions. Well that's how I have taken it from playing Div 7 and Div 2.

Players are probably more disciplined in the higher grades, they might say something cheeky on their way past but that's about it.
It's a hard one to judge, after half time in a close A Grade game you usually hear a bit coming from the bar area every time you penalize the home side, I can't say I cop too much shit out there by the players, it is a matter of explaining each decision and keeping it simple, if you don't pay ticky touch free kicks early it's easier to find a level of consistency throughout the game.

I umpired 1 season of Div 2 reserves at Walkerville and I didn't hear 1 bit of foul language by anyone. Whereas playing Div 7 A or B grade, I hear it constantly. Blokes need to understand that once a decision is made. Generally no matter what you say to the umpire, he / she will never change their mind.

Was there a vote from all clubs to impose a 3 week suspension for commenting on an umpires performance?
I couldn't care less who the player is or what their history is, I just think a little common sense needs to be applied in these situations. If he went up to the umpire and was abusing/yelling at him, in his face swearing and calling him a c#$t or a cheat as an example, then this would be worthy of a report and suspension. This would be intimidating and put the umpire in an uncomfortable position/situation which I totally agree is not needed in our game. But if a smart arse remark made about an umpires performance is worthy of a report and suspension then we have gone completely mad.
I am probably so surprised by this outcome because I was on the field after the game having just played in it and I heard no commotion, swearing, abuse or anything about a report. I found out earlier in the week he got reported and then last night he got 3 games. I can't believe I didn't hear or see the incident if it was worthy of a 3 game suspension

100%, I say this to the boys all the time... why even argue/ask the question? I have never seen the umpire change his mind... get on with the game and save your breath!

I found with Rugby League, that the higher grades (obviously) had better players, who were more understanding of the rules, so they knew the penalties were there easier and accepted them and just moved on without issue. Also referees were obviously a lot better and decision making better as well.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 7 - 2018
I just read the League update and it says 6 of the players listed have been to the tribunal 3 times or more and the others never before
Now, I'll take a guess that Mr Woodward has met a few of the tribunal before and that means on, at least, 3 occasions before last night

I reckon you are right since he was on 8 games before the latest 3.. this shouldn't have any bearing on the outcome of this offence imo though..
1. If player has never been to the tribunal before says to the umpire after the game 'you were terrible today' = no report and no suspension
2. If player has been to the tribunal more than once before says to the umpire after the game 'you were terrible today' = report and suspension
If the player has been reported and suspended for umpire abuse or threats etc. before and says the above, I still think this is not worthy of a suspension.. If the player says 'you cheating white maggot c#$t, f#$kface piece of sh!t' throw the book at him!

Will Central United appeal the decision? Or take the 3 and mean that Bradley will have to be even more aware while playing.
