This isnt why that rule is in place, it was priginally put in place to stop the club down the road with more money poaching a gun player from their neighbour, works quite well and if a club really wants that player they need to come to arrangement with the other club. The main reason it was bought in though was if a kid went down to Centrals and played underage or senior footy he had to return to his "home" club rather than another club in the league who had nothing to do with his development for dollars. Of course nothing stopping said player going to another league but at least he wasnt playing against the club that developed him

Mr Kookaburra. The reason it's changed so often is that leagues have had numerous meetings. Information has also changed. What was originally decided upon has now changed. Possibly one league has been waiting to see what others were doing. Every chance things will change again over the next 2-3 weeks. Still more meetings to be had

And if the club does submit their paperwork and pay superannuation? All these ridiculous rules being put in place, first the points system, now a salary cap. Anything else before they completely kill country footy? Go and check the payments given out in Victoria for some country football clubs, allegedly most clubs start at $300k a year. That's an issue, not the SA Country Clubs who are paying $100k a year. One club in Victoria allegedly paid $480k this year.

Didn't Unley sign or poach two former country players for 2015??!!! There will always be houses to sell champ. The football world has gone this long playing the game without pathetic salary cap and points system rules, no need to change things now..

What I find odd about this debate is my understanding is that the actual impetus for the salary cap is SANFL clubs concerned about a drain on talent and country clubs concerned that the player payment arms race was going to cause them to be so uncompetitive they would cease to exist.
Most SAAFL clubs are bloody indifferent to the salary cap or at most support the concept lukewarmly. I wouldn't think many SAAFL clubs would lose any sleep over salary cap or no salary cap.
There are that many loop holes in the salary crap crackdown that nobody will get caught unless absolutely insane. Club sponsors giving payment in a brown bag with clubs denying knowledge, sponsors employing players or partners as a subcontractor and paying them (without actually doing an hours). (Subcontractors don't get superannuation or holidays or sick pay and are not company employees) are just 2 ways out of the 20 or so that Ive heard already. Totally legal to hire a subcontractor (you don't have to stipulate his role was playing football)
